Former nominated senator Millicent Omanga has officially exited the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join the Democratic Change Party (DCP), in a move that has stirred political debate within Kenya’s political landscape.

Omanga criticized the administration of President William Ruto, accusing it of failing to fulfill its pledge on achieving a 50-50 gender balance in government appointments. She argued that women have been sidelined in key leadership positions despite campaign promises that emphasized inclusivity and equal representation.

Her defection to DCP, an opposition-aligned political party, signals growing dissatisfaction among some former allies of the ruling coalition. Political analysts suggest the move could influence ongoing realignments ahead of future elections, as parties reposition themselves on issues of governance, equity, and representation in Kenya.
