The government has issued an immediate evacuation order to residents in six Nairobi estates amid growing fears that Nairobi Dam could overflow or give way due to rising water levels.
The estates affected include Kibera, Nyayo Highrise, Dam Estate, Lang’ata, Nairobi West, and Madaraka, all of which lie in low-lying areas downstream of the dam and are considered highly vulnerable.
Authorities reported that water levels at the dam, located along the Ngong River, have continued to rise following persistent heavy rains, raising concerns over possible flooding or structural failure.
Emergency response teams have already been deployed, with officials urging residents to evacuate immediately or prepare to relocate to safer areas as a precautionary measure.
The directive comes as Nairobi and other parts of the country continue to experience heavy rainfall, which has already caused flooding, displacement, and loss of life in several regions.
