Ukraine has carried out one of its largest drone attacks on Russia since the war began, reportedly deploying more than 280 drones in a single overnight operation, according to Russia’s state news agency citing the defence ministry.
The large-scale strike highlights Kyiv’s increasing reliance on drone warfare to hit targets deep inside Russian territory, including military bases, infrastructure, and supply routes. In recent months, Ukraine has significantly expanded its drone capabilities, enabling more coordinated and long-range attacks.
Russian authorities said their air defence systems intercepted many of the incoming drones, though the scale of the assault signals a growing intensity in the conflict. Such operations are becoming more frequent as both sides continue to adopt drones as a central part of their military strategy.
The attack comes as fighting persists along the front lines, pointing to a continued evolution in tactics in the ongoing war. However, independent verification of the number of drones launched and the extent of damage remains unclear.
The conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, continues to shift as new technologies redefine the battlefield.
