The Kenyan government is in discussions with the World Bank for a Sh16 billion ($135 million) loan aimed at digitising land registries and curbing fraud in the property sector.
The move comes amid concerns raised by the United States over a rise in fake title deeds, which has exposed weaknesses in the country’s land management systems. Authorities say the funding will help modernise records, improve transparency, and dismantle cartels that exploit manual processes to manipulate ownership documents.
Digitisation is expected to streamline land transactions, reduce disputes, and restore confidence among investors and property owners. The government has increasingly prioritised land reforms as part of broader efforts to enhance governance and protect property rights.
