Police have launched investigations following the discovery of a suspected mass grave at Makaburini Cemetery in Kericho County, sparking concern among residents.
The discovery was reported on Saturday, March 21, 2026, after two grave diggers noticed unusual activity at the site and alerted authorities.
Preliminary findings suggest the grave may contain multiple bodies, some reportedly mutilated, though the exact number of victims remains unknown. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the burials.
Witnesses told police that unknown individuals arrived at the cemetery in a vehicle and supervised the dumping of bodies into a freshly dug grave, allegedly packed in body bags.
The National Police Service has since secured the area and deployed detectives along with forensic experts to preserve evidence and begin investigations.
