Deputy President Secretary Kithure Kindiki has strongly responded to remarks attributed to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who allegedly issued a 10-day ultimatum demanding urgent action on rising banditry in Meru North.

In a sharp rebuttal, Kindiki dismissed the ultimatum, accusing Gachagua of engaging in political threats rather than offering constructive leadership on security matters.

He noted that banditry in Meru North has been a long-standing challenge spanning over a decade, and worsened during periods when Gachagua and his allies held senior roles in national security.

“The Government will crush the criminals, as we did before. We are not acting out of threats or ultimatums, but because it is our duty to protect Kenyans and their property,” he said in his remarks.

He also criticized what he termed as political rhetoric and lack of tangible development contributions from his critics during their time in office, challenging them to account for their record in public service.

Kindiki maintained that the government remains committed to restoring security in the affected regions and urged leaders to avoid incitement and instead support ongoing security operations.

“Let’s compete on service delivery and development, not empty threats,” he added.
