YouTube has intensified its crackdown on low-quality artificial intelligence (AI) content, deleting hundreds of channels accused of flooding the platform with repetitive and spam-like videos.
The move targets what industry experts have dubbed “AI slop” — mass-produced videos generated using AI tools with little originality, often designed to exploit the platform’s algorithm and maximize ad revenue.
Recent reports indicate that dozens of major AI-driven channels, some with millions of subscribers and billions of views, have already been removed as part of the purge.
The crackdown follows growing concern that such content is overwhelming genuine creators, with studies suggesting that over 20% of videos shown to new users may fall into the “AI-generated, low-quality” category.
YouTube has stated that while it supports the use of AI as a creative tool, it will not tolerate content that is repetitive, misleading, or lacks value to viewers. The platform is also experimenting with systems that allow users to flag and rate suspected AI-generated videos to improve moderation.
The crackdown is partly driven by concerns from advertisers, who prefer high-quality, authentic content and have raised alarm over the rise of automated, low-effort videos dominating the platform.
As YouTube tightens its policies, the move signals a broader shift toward prioritizing originality and quality, even as AI tools continue to reshape content creation globally.
